Frosted Pumpkins on a Farm Stall

Pumpkins crowd the farm stall, from small pale gourds to large orange ones with deep ribs. Frost catches on their tops and along the edges of the wooden crates. Burlap hangs over the display, and fallen leaves cover the ground beneath it. Low sunlight reaches across the field toward the distant farm buildings.

The largest pumpkins are useful starting sections, but their orange pieces are easy to confuse with the leaves. Look for smooth curved ribs on the fruit and thin veins in the foliage. The burlap has a coarse square weave, quite different from the straight grain of the crates. Beyond the stall, the misty field needs a gentler sort by shade.
