Stage Scenery in a Theatre Workshop

Large painted woodland panels stand on timber frames across the workshop, each showing a slightly different stretch of trees and a winding path. Open tins of green, blue and rust paint sit on a scarred worktable with long brushes and stained cloths. More frames and ladders gather near the back wall, where high windows let in a cool strip of daylight.

The panels give you broad areas to start with, but their brush marks keep the greens from blending together. Look for the hard edges of the wooden frames, the shiny paint on the tins and the soft folds in the canvas on the floor. Once those landmarks are in place, the painted branches and distant hills make a satisfying set of smaller sections.
