Weathered Terracotta Roof Tiles

Curved clay roof tiles go on in two layers. The lower row sits cupped upward to carry rain down the slope, while the upper row is turned over to cap the joints between them. These old ones are chipped at the edges and patched with gray-green lichen. Up close the overlapping curves make an unusually rhythmic terracotta roof tile jigsaw puzzle.
