Ribbon Spools in a Haberdashery

Wooden spools fill the worktable with satin, velvet, grosgrain and checked ribbons. Deep green, burgundy, pink, mustard and blue bands overlap in loose curls, while brass scissors rest among buttons and scraps of lace. Open drawers and folded cloth frame the back of the table. Every spool has a slightly different grain and rim.

Glossy ribbon is the easiest place to begin because the highlights run in long, clear bands. Velvet absorbs the light, so its edges and folds matter more than its color. Checked ribbons add small grids, while lace and buttons break up the broader fabric shapes. Follow the loose ends across the table and use the wooden rims to separate spools that share the same shade.
