Attic Reading Loft

The chair sits close enough to the bookcase that you could reach the lower shelves without getting up. A patchwork quilt hangs over one arm, and an open book waits on the little table under a brass lamp. By the window, a tabby has stretched out between the cushions.

Dark roof beams slope down behind the chair. Outside, chimneys rise above a jumble of tiled roofs, with a church tower farther back. Indoors, the books have faded to several shades of red, green and brown. Their narrow spines can look alike in a loose pile of pieces; shelf edges help keep the rows apart. The rug has much smaller patterns than the quilt, even where their colors overlap.
