Slippers beside a Mending Basket

One sock has been darned; its partner is still draped over the basket rim. Red felt slippers sit beneath a checked footstool, close to the wooden spools that have escaped onto the floor. Afternoon light shows the difference between smooth thread, fuzzy wool and the basket's split willow strands.

The little repaired patch makes a good reference within a much larger area of gray knitting. Its stitches run across the sock's original ribs. Checks on the footstool are more regular, though their spacing changes around the upholstered edge. You can assemble those corners separately and use the slippers to bridge the lower part of the picture.
