Golden Retriever at a Lakeside Dock

Wet fur hangs in long strands from the retriever's chest, and dark marks spread across the boards beneath its paws. The dog sits beside a coil of rope with its tail laid out behind it, looking across the dock rather than straight at the camera. A red bandana supplies the brightest patch of color. Beyond the timber, reeds rise out of rippled blue water and a rocky bank runs beneath the trees.

There is more than one sort of gold to sort here. Short hair around the eyes is smooth, chest fur forms narrow points, and the rope twists into thick, repeating cords. The dock adds another brown texture, interrupted by knots, nail heads and long plank seams. Water pieces are cooler and mostly horizontal, whereas the reeds turn the right side into a tangle of upright green lines. That change of direction helps keep the shoreline separate from the foreground.
