Water jigsaw puzzles

Reflections repeat things in an odd way. The same boat or building appears twice, but the lower version is stretched and interrupted by ripples. Waterfalls work differently. Their vertical streaks cross ledges and collect in pools, so the direction of a pale mark can tell you more than its shade. A shoreline connects these changing surfaces to something solid.

If several blue sections look alike, compare their texture before their shade. A smooth patch of open water, a broken reflection and a strip of sky may share the same color but belong in completely different parts of the picture.
