Leaning Tower of Pisa

The Leaning Tower of Pisa rises beside the cathedral complex under a clear Italian sky. Its pale marble arcades repeat from level to level, but the famous tilt gives every column and shadow a slightly different angle. Green lawn and the heavier cathedral walls provide a quiet base beneath the detailed bell tower.

Build the outer curve of the tower before filling its galleries. Dark arch openings are useful landmarks, especially where their spacing tightens toward the top. Keep the cathedral's flatter walls apart from the tower's rounded tiers, even though both share the same cream stone. The lawn is best left until those buildings are stable; small changes in light and patches of shadow will then have far fewer possible positions. A clean blue sky offers a gentle final section after the architecture is complete.
