Linocut Printmaking Table

Fresh botanical prints hang above a worktable crowded with the tools that made them. A carved block lies among curled shavings and wooden-handled gouges, while a roller rests in navy ink on a glass slab. Nearby sheets carry dark leaves and rust-colored flowers on rough-edged paper. Daylight from the window picks out scratches in the timber, ink on the rag and the rims of a few pottery containers.

Carved leaves and printed leaves need a second look here. Pale channels surround the raised shapes on the block; on paper, the pattern is flatter, with small gaps where the ink has caught unevenly. Both sit beside real stems and foliage, whose shadows add another layer of detail. Following the corners of the paper separates those overlapping areas without relying on color alone. Across the glass slab, reflections and a glossy roller break up the largest patch of blue.
