Lunar Crater Shadows at Sunrise

Low sunlight reaches across an imagined lunar plain, turning the crater rims bright and leaving their interiors almost black. Long shadows run between pale ridges, scattered rocks and shallow depressions. The horizon stays stark against the dark sky, while the foreground is packed with small stones and fine regolith.

The large crater on the right is the clearest place to begin, followed by the bright ridge that runs across the middle. Sort the warm gold highlights from the gray-brown ground, then use the rock shapes to break up the broad shadowed sections. The scene is quiet and spare, but every change in light creates a useful line to follow.
