Quilt Squares on a Sewing Room Floor

Cut fabric squares cover the sewing room floor in a loose arrangement of floral and geometric prints. Wooden scissors, thread spools and a cloth tape measure sit among them, while one unfinished quilt is folded at the edge. Each cotton print brings a different small pattern into the broad overhead view.

Start with the tools because their outlines are more definite than the cloth. Then sort squares by print scale and keep the folds with the colors they bend. Thread spools make compact circles with a dark centre. The unfinished quilt can be assembled separately, using its seams to reconnect the scattered pieces around it.
