Reed Boat on a Highland Lake Shore

Boats made from bundles of dried totora reed have been used on Lake Titicaca for centuries. In 1970 the explorer Thor Heyerdahl had Aymara builders from the lake make him one big enough for the ocean. That boat, Ra II, sailed from Morocco all the way to Barbados. This small one rests on the gravel shore of a cold blue highland lake ringed by brown hills. Every lashing and bundle of reeds gives the reed boat jigsaw puzzle a fine, even texture.
