Wombat beside a Fallen Log

With its nose close to the grass, a wombat pauses beside a hollow log. Coarse fur runs in short tufts over its rounded back, quite unlike the peeling strips of eucalyptus bark nearby. Curled leaves fill the gaps between exposed roots and patches of fresh growth.

The dark nose and small ears help establish the head without needing the whole body outline. Fur changes direction around the shoulder, so two brown pieces may belong together even when their tones differ. For the forest floor, sort rolled leaves from flatter bark flakes. Their curled edges make little shadows that are more distinctive than the overall brown palette suggests.
