Charcoal Marks across Apricot

Franz Kline's big black and white abstracts began, as the story goes, when he saw one of his small brush sketches blown up across a wall by a projector. He realized a few broad strokes could hold a whole canvas. The marks here have the same speed and swing, laid in charcoal over a warm apricot ground and scraped back in places. It's an abstract art jigsaw puzzle with no subject at all, only movement.
