Floating Blocks in Rose and Olive

Rose and olive blocks float across a warm paper ground, each one leaving a small offset shadow. Rough brush edges keep the shapes from becoming perfect rectangles, and a few charcoal marks cut through the calmer areas. Cream gaps give the composition space between the overlapping colors.

The shadows are subtle but useful. They show which block is nearer and help place pieces that share the same paint. Rough edges should be followed by their tiny breaks rather than by the broad color field. Charcoal marks form short, dark groups. Save the largest cream spaces for the end, when the neighboring edges have already described their shape.
