Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower rises above the Seine and the closely packed rooftops of Paris. Its wide iron legs narrow through several platforms toward the antenna. Bridges cross the river below, with pale stone buildings lining both banks. Scattered clouds pass through the blue sky behind the tower.

Latticework changes scale as it climbs, from broad openings near the base to very fine dark lines high above. Roofs and bridges have stronger horizontal edges than that tapering frame. In the lower part of the scene, the river repeats some of the buildings' colors in softer reflections. Chimneys, balconies and individual roof slopes provide small distinctions within the closely packed city.
