Gouache Hills in Terracotta and Sage

Terracotta and sage hills overlap in broad matte bands, with a pale track winding toward the far ridge. Cream clouds sit in blocky shapes above the landscape, and a few dark cypresses mark the middle distance. Brushwork remains visible where one color meets another.

Begin with the track, which supplies a pale route through several layers. Hills may share a color but differ in the direction of the brush marks. The cypresses are narrow vertical groups that can anchor the middle once you know which ridge they stand on. Leave the sky for the end, when the uneven cloud edges have somewhere to connect.
