Highland Cows in the Rain

Two Highland cows stand beside an old stone wall on a rain-soaked hillside. Long russet hair hangs over their eyes and falls in damp strands around their shoulders. Pale horns curve above the heavy fringes. Heather and rough grass cover the ground, while mist partly hides the higher slopes beyond the wall.

The nearer cow fills much more of the frame, with coarse strands of hair visible across its face. The second animal has a narrower silhouette and different horn angles. Both share the warm coloring of the grass, but fur hangs downward in thicker strands. Along the right edge, wall stones form irregular gray blocks. Lichen and wet highlights distinguish their hard surfaces from the softer vegetation beside them.
