Kittens by the Window

A pair of young tabbies have claimed the window seat for the morning. The brown kitten sits up to watch the room while the orange kitten settles into the blanket, close enough that their shoulders touch. Sunlight picks out every whisker and gives the fur a mix of warm stripes, soft shadows and small color changes.

The faces are the obvious place to begin, but the different coat patterns are useful too. Keep the darker brown stripes apart from the softer orange fur, then use the window frame and blanket edge to set the scene around them. At higher piece counts, the woven fabric and leafy garden add a patient final stretch without turning into a flat patch of color.
