Rose Arbor after Rain

Pink roses spill over a weathered wooden arbor just after rain. Water beads on the leaves, and the wet brick path runs through the arch into a deeper garden of purple flowers and green shrubs. The wood is dark from the weather, which keeps the bright petals from blending into the background.

The path narrows as it passes beneath the arbor, drawing a strip of warm brick through the green garden. Posts and crosspieces form a much straighter pattern than the rose stems wound around them. Some blooms face the viewer; others show only a rounded side or a few pale petals. Wet leaves reflect the sky in small bright patches. Those reflections help distinguish the nearest foliage from the darker planting beyond the arch.
