Wood-Fired Pizza

A wood-fired pizza rests near the mouth of a brick oven, its crust blistered in dark spots and puffed along the edge. Melted mozzarella gathers between bright tomato sauce and torn basil leaves, while a dusting of flour trails across the wooden peel beside it. Behind the pizza, glowing coals and warm oven bricks add a darker patch of texture without stealing the focus.

The crust rises unevenly around the pizza, with dark blisters scattered across its pale floury surface. Basil leaves have pointed ends and visible veins, quite different from the rounded patches of cheese beside them. The wooden peel extends beneath the food in longer lines of grain. Inside the oven, red coals sit below curved courses of brick. Both are warm in color, but their textures and shapes are very different.
