Woven Basket Market Patterns

Market baskets are stacked tightly together, with their open mouths facing in several directions. Pale straw alternates with dyed bands of indigo, green and rust. Some baskets have tall loop handles; others have shallow sides and thick braided rims. Light reaches the upper edges but leaves deeper shadows inside the larger baskets, making the overlapping shapes visible even where their colors are similar.

Leather handles are useful anchors because their curved brown lines cross several baskets. Indigo bands, green stripes and rust interiors separate the larger shapes, while pale straw rims trace bright rings across the image. Small knots, braided edges and changing weave direction give the tighter sections enough clues for careful sorting.
