African Elephant Family

Three African elephants move along the edge of a shallow waterhole, with a calf walking safely between two adults. Warm light catches the wrinkles around their ears and trunks, while dry grass and acacia trees stretch behind them. The low hills in the distance keep the savanna open without leaving the sky empty.

Begin with the calf and the two broad adult ears, since those shapes stand apart from the grass. Reflections along the waterhole make a useful lower border, then the legs and shadows can be built across the middle. Acacia branches, dusty ground and small changes in the elephants' skin give the remaining pieces enough texture to stay readable.
