Foxgloves around a Water Trough

Pink foxgloves rise above a long stone trough, with rows of bell-shaped flowers hanging from tall stems. Their broad leaves crowd the rim and trail toward the gravel. Behind the trough, a wooden gate opens onto a much lighter stretch of countryside. Moss has spread across parts of the old stone.

The flower spikes give you several small sections to work on, though the pinks are close enough to mix up. Look inside the bells for pale rims and darker speckles. The trough is a slower section, full of rough gray patches and green growth. Its straight upper edge is worth finding early, before the surrounding leaves fill the tray.
