Heather Ridge beneath Low Cloud

Purple heather covers the ridge beneath a low ceiling of cloud. Pale granite outcrops break the slope into rough islands, and bent grasses show the direction of the wind. Farther hills fade through several blue-gray layers before meeting the soft sky.

Start with the granite, whose sharp edges stand out against the flowering ground. Heather pieces carry tiny purple marks and uneven green stems, while distant hills are smoother and less detailed. Cloud has broad, gentle changes in tone. Keep it separate from the far ridge until the horizon line tells you where the land ends.
