Lighthouse at Sunset

Evening light reaches the lighthouse just as the lamp comes on. The white tower rises beside the keeper's cottage, with a stone wall and narrow path following the edge of the headland. Below them, dark rocks break up the surf while the last sunlight catches the water and the tops of the grass.

The tower and cottage make a clear place to begin. White walls, red roof tiles and the black lantern room all separate easily before the coastline is in place. The path leads into the foreground, and the bright foam helps sort the water from the rocks. Save the clouds for later. Their cooler gray edges and warm undersides give you more clues than a plain sunset sky would.
