Tower Bridge at Night

Tower Bridge stretches across the Thames after dark, its pale stone towers lit against a deep blue sky. Blue suspension lines sweep away from the towers, while warm lamps pick out windows, walkways and the lower span. Beneath the bridge, gold and white reflections spread across the dark river.

The towers look similar at first, but their positions reveal different faces of the stonework. Roof peaks and arched openings help distinguish one from the other. Blue steelwork links them in long curves, crossed by thinner supports. On the river, the lights become broken streaks with no sharp architectural edge. That difference is useful when a small bright fragment could belong either to a lamp or to its reflection.
