Op Art Ribbon Waves

Black and white ribbons roll across the frame in broad waves, bending around a central checkerboard fold. Some stripes stretch into clean arcs while others pinch into tighter turns near the edges. The alternating bands suggest a flexible surface rising and dipping, though the picture gives no fixed object or setting to explain the illusion.

Black and white run throughout the picture, so color alone offers little help. A broad arc may be far from a narrow stripe that looks almost identical on a small piece. Width and spacing become more useful as each curve takes shape. In the checkerboard sections, squares stretch where the surface appears to turn. Their changing proportions distinguish an inward fold from a ribbon bending out toward the viewer.
