Charcoal Circles on Ochre Paper

Uneven charcoal circles cover a sheet of warm ochre paper on a worn wooden table. Some rings are dark and heavy, while others fade into loose graphite dust and pale chalk marks. Folded edges, torn fibers and a shallow dish of charcoal keep the paper from reading as one flat surface. A few sticks lie across the corners, catching small highlights.

The broad rings are natural groups, but their rough edges rarely repeat in exactly the same way. Inside each circle, smudges and broken strokes change from soft grey to nearly black. Paper creases give the ochre background long lines that help with orientation. Look for charcoal crumbs, white chalk traces and wood grain when the larger shapes start to meet.
