Owl in a Hollow Beech

An owl peers from a hollow beech, with barred feathers framed by rough bark and a deep dark cavity. Leaves and small shafts of woodland light break the surrounding green into manageable pieces.

Start with the eyes and facial disk, then work outward through feather bars. Bark sorts by ridge direction; keep cavity pieces together and use leaf edges to close the outer frame. Eye rings and bark ridges give the owl a precise center inside the irregular hollow. Feather bars and hollow edges make the center easier to rebuild.
