Birdhouse Morning

A wooden birdhouse hangs among flowering branches in clear morning light. Bluebirds perch at the entrance and on a nearby limb, their blue wings and rust-colored breasts standing out against fresh green leaves and soft pink blossoms. Weathered grain and small nail marks give the simple box plenty of texture.

Build the birdhouse roof and square front as a compact section, then add the round entrance and perch. Each bird can be recognized through the direction of its head, wing and feet, so avoid mixing all the blue feathers together. The branch crossing the lower half provides a natural route into the foliage. Sunlit leaves are yellow-green with crisp edges, whereas shaded leaves are cooler and softer. Pink flowers scattered around the birds help place the remaining garden pieces without turning the background into an undifferentiated green field.
