Snowy Owl in a Winter Field

A snowy owl sits in fresh snow beneath a pale blue sky, with frosted grass and fine black speckles across its white feathers.

Begin with the dark eye and the small markings around the head. White feathers and snow can look alike, but shadows under the body and the thin grass stems give them different edges. The blue sky is broad and quiet, making a good late section once the owl has formed a clear centre. If the board becomes crowded, return to snowy owl in a winter field and use its edges to divide nearby pieces into smaller piles.
