Winter Jigsaw Puzzles

Light matters as much as snow in a winter scene. Bare branches, early dusk, quiet streets and warm windows can carry the season even when the ground is clear. Cool outdoor colors make every small point of gold or red feel especially vivid.

A winter street may have more color after sunset than under an overcast sky. Window light reaches the pavement, dark roofs cut across the remaining daylight, and bare branches show clearly against the buildings behind them. In open country, the same season can leave far fewer lines between the ground and sky. A line of fence posts can become the only measure of distance.
