Winter Jigsaw Puzzles

Light matters as much as snow in a winter scene. Bare branches, early dusk, quiet streets and warm windows can carry the season even when the ground is clear. Cool outdoor colors make every small point of gold or red feel especially vivid.

Place the darkest building edges, tree trunks or animal markings before moving into pale ground and sky. Snow resting on a roof has a crisp boundary, while clouds and shaded drifts change more gradually. Lamps and windows make compact anchors in those softer areas.

Once the warm and dark contrasts are settled, separate the remaining cool tones by texture. Smooth sky, powdery ground, stone and fur may share a blue-gray cast, but they do not catch the light in the same way.
