Persian Carpet Detail

Every speck of color in a hand-knotted Persian carpet is a separate knot of wool, tied by hand around the threads of the loom. A large carpet can take a weaver many months. Up close, part of a red one with a cream and navy star medallion turns into a Persian carpet jigsaw puzzle full of small flowers. Village weavers often worked from memory, so no two carpets of the same design come out quite identical.
