Grayscale Gradient

A demanding grayscale field transitions continuously from pure black to pure white with no objects.

This is all about tiny changes in value. Separate true black, deep charcoal and the lighter middle greys before arranging them in a long progression. White pieces can be held back until the darker half is stable, since the lack of objects leaves every transition dependent on shade. If the board becomes crowded, return to grayscale gradient and use its edges to divide nearby pieces into smaller piles.
