Pistachio Baklava on a Copper Tray

Someone has already taken a few pieces, exposing the hammered copper beneath the baklava. Syrup catches along the diamond cuts, while crushed pistachios collect in the gaps. A small glass of tea sits off the tray on plum-colored cloth, far enough from the pastry to keep its outline clear.

This is a picture where the gaps matter as much as the food. Empty copper patches interrupt the repeated pastry shapes and help place the surrounding pieces. Look closely at the cut sides, too.
