Redwood Trail with Ferns and Fog

A damp trail runs between enormous redwood trunks and disappears into morning fog. Ferns spread across both sides of the path, with moss-covered logs, fallen cones and wet leaf litter filling the foreground. One soft shaft of sunlight reaches through the mist and warms the centre of the forest.

The nearest trunks are strong vertical anchors, but their bark patterns change from one side to the other. Build the path next, following its dark edges into the pale fog. Fern fronds make repeated green shapes that can be sorted by length and direction. Fallen cones and moss add small warm and olive groups below the trunks. Leave the mist and distant trees until the end, when the foreground frame is complete.
