Tulip Fields in Spring

Spring color runs across a flat Dutch field in long rows of tulips. Red, yellow and pink flowers form clean bands leading toward a weathered windmill and a line of low farm buildings. A narrow path cuts through the field, with damp soil and green leaves breaking up the brighter color.

Begin with the windmill, roofline and pale clouds before sorting the flower rows. Each color has its own rhythm, so it helps to keep red, yellow and pink pieces in separate groups while the path takes shape. Leaf edges and bits of dark soil give the foreground more detail than it first appears to have. Near the horizon, smaller flowers and soft cloud shadows make the last pieces quieter but still readable.
