Tulip Fields in Spring

Spring color runs across a flat Dutch field in long rows of tulips. Red, yellow and pink flowers form clean bands leading toward a weathered windmill and a line of low farm buildings. A narrow path cuts through the field, with damp soil and green leaves breaking up the brighter color.

Flower rows narrow toward the windmill, changing from individual blooms in the foreground to thin bands near the horizon. Red, yellow and pink therefore repeat at several scales. Green leaves and dark soil appear between the closest flowers, while the path makes a broader break through the field. Above it all, the windmill's sails cut diagonal lines across the sky, quite separate from the rows beneath them.
