Woven Cane Baskets in a Workshop

Five cane baskets sit across a weathered workshop bench, each one using a different weave. A tall basket rises in the center, with a lidded round basket on the right and a wide handled basket catching the window light on the left. Loose reeds, wooden tools and coils of cane fill the shelves behind them.

The basket rims and handles make strong outlines to build first. After that, separate the diagonal weave from the tighter horizontal strips, using the shadows inside each basket as a guide. The bench has knots, scratches and pale dust, while the reeds form thin lines across the foreground. Warm tan colors dominate, but the textures keep them from blending together.
