Autumn Wreath on a Barn Door

A handmade wreath of maple leaves, wheat, berries and small gourds hangs on a weathered red barn door. Straw bales and fallen leaves gather below, with warm afternoon light picking out the wood grain and dry stems. The round wreath gives the center a strong shape against the broad door.

Begin with the wreath ring and its largest leaves, then separate wheat stems from the rough boards. The door planks create long vertical guides. Place the straw and ground leaves around the bottom after the red wood has established the frame.
