Fresh Bread and Tomatoes on a Table

A crusty round loaf sits beside ripe tomatoes, basil leaves and a small kitchen knife on a worn wooden table. One slice rests in front of the bread among scattered crumbs, while a striped linen cloth and a potted basil plant fill the warmer background. The loaf is the largest shape and gives the left side an easy anchor. Build the tomato group next by following the highlights and the dark stems, then use the knife as a long diagonal on the lower right. Table boards run across the foreground, but their knots and cracks change direction. Keep the cloth and background leaves separate until the central still life is secure.
