Frost Patterns on a Greenhouse Window

Branching frost covers the old greenhouse panes, making feathery white patterns against the blue morning outside. Inside, terracotta pots hold herbs, a hellebore and leafy plants that have stayed green through the cold. A silver watering can catches a narrow stripe of light on the wooden bench, while snow gathers along the lower frame.

The window bars divide the picture into useful sections, and the frost has a different pattern on every pane. Sort the bright ice first, then use the pot rims and dark leaves to build the warmer interior. The watering can gives the right side a clear metallic landmark, while the snowy ground and distant trees make a softer border. Small changes in glass and condensation do most of the work.
