About the Modern Library under a Sawtooth Roof jigsaw puzzle
A sawtooth roof gets its name from its profile, a row of slopes that each end in a band of upright glass. It was an invention of the industrial 1800s, built over weaving sheds and factories so daylight could reach the middle of a floor too wide for side windows to light. Architects have since borrowed it for schools, studios and libraries. In the library jigsaw puzzle it steps up in broad wooden planes over a reading room with stone walls, tall windows onto the trees and long tables where people are working. Warm wood and pale stone make up most of the rest.
