About the Old Wooden Skis against a Timber Wall jigsaw puzzle
Before aluminum, ski poles were usually made of bamboo cane, which was light, springy and cheap. The basket near each tip was a ring of cane or metal laced with leather, there to stop the pole from sinking out of sight in deep snow. A pair of old wooden skis with leather and cable bindings leans with its poles against the timber wall of a mountain hut, a little snow still lying at the foot. In the wooden skis jigsaw puzzle the red stripe down each ski is the brightest thing in sight.
