Emerald Ink Lines on Rice Paper

Loose emerald brushstrokes sweep in from both sides of the rice paper, with the darker paint pooling where the lines overlap. Broad diluted washes sit behind the crisp marks, and small splashes break away near the upper edge. The warm paper shows through in the open spaces, carrying a soft handmade texture across the whole image.

The darkest green shapes give you a natural starting point, especially the heavy strokes at the corners. From there, follow the thin looping lines through the pale washes and separate wet edges from dry brush marks. The picture has no single object to assemble, so changes in pigment, paper grain and stroke direction become the landmarks. Small ink drops add a pleasing final search.
