Hummingbird at Red Flowers

Ruby red flowers fill a green garden as a hummingbird hangs beside one open trumpet bloom. Its wing is caught wide enough to show the long feathers, while blue and emerald color flashes across the head, throat and back. Glossy leaves, buds and soft stems crowd the background without stealing attention from the bird.

The bird occupies a small part of the frame, but its blue-green feathers differ from the matte leaves around it. A long bill reaches toward one red flower, while the spread wing forms a fan of fine lines. The flowers repeat their trumpet shape at different angles. Comparing the stems attached to them is useful when two red pieces look alike, especially among the tightly packed blooms near the edge.
