Kingfisher Diving above a River

A kingfisher enters the water so cleanly that Japanese engineers copied the shape of its beak for the nose of a bullet train, to quiet the bang it made leaving tunnels. This kingfisher jigsaw puzzle catches one a split second before it hits a clear, shallow stream. That famous blue isn't a pigment at all. It comes from tiny structures in the feathers that scatter light, so the color shifts as the bird turns.
