Mangrove Roots at Low Tide

Mangrove roots spread across the exposed mud as the tide pulls back. Thick trunks lean over shallow pools, with smaller roots rising like dark fingers around shells and tiny crabs. The water catches the sky in broken strips, while the green canopy closes around the channel. Farther out, the creek opens towards a low island and a warm band of light.

The foreground is full of useful outlines, from the root knots to the curved shells half buried in mud. Reflections are smoother, but ripples and dark patches stop the pools from becoming one blue section. Look for the changing bark colors where wet wood turns almost black. Leaves, distant shoreline and small crab shapes add fine clues once the larger roots are in place.
