Waves on the Cliffs

Afternoon light falls across dark coastal cliffs cut through with two small coves. White water curls around low shelves of rock before breaking into foam along their edges. Farther out, the sea shifts from clear turquoise to a deeper blue beneath a pale horizon. A few hardy plants grow between the stones in the foreground.

The coast forms several shelves rather than one unbroken drop. Water reaches into the gaps, leaving bright foam around the lower rocks and darker blue beyond them. The far headland sits almost level with the horizon. Nearer the viewer, cracks and small green plants interrupt the rough stone, bringing the broad coastal view down to details at the cliff edge.
